Ward Damp-Proofing Ltd - Celebrating 30 years in business.
Services include:
- The treatment of rising damp
- In-situ treatment of wood-boring beetles
- The identification and eradication of both dry and wet rot
- The application of cementitious below-ground rendering systems
- Liquid applied and sheet membrane systems
- The application of drained cavity membrane systems (compliant to BS8102) to existing domestic, commercial or new build properties.
Site Inspection Our qualified surveyors can inspect sites throughout London, the Home Counties and the North West of England. They will report findings and provide estimates for any remedial work.
Decay: Dry Rot / Wet Rot Both Dry and Wet Rot can remain undetected in buildings causing extensive damage which can prove costly to repair. The onset of decay is invariably linked to high moisture content often as a result of a building defect allowing water ingress. Timber absorbs moisture in damp conditions and becomes vulnerable to fungal attack.
Dry Rot Dry Rot has the ability to travel through brickwork and mortar, transporting moisture from damp areas to dry wood. It is therefore essential that a thorough and detailed survey is carried out to establish the extent of the problem. Our qualified, specialist remedial surveyors can determine the extent of Dry Rot which can be eradicated by the drying out of the affected areas and the careful use of fungicidal treatments. Ward Damp-proofing provides the following treatment process:
- Locate and eliminate all sources of moisture
- Promote rapid drying of the structure
- Remove all decayed wood
- Local masonry wall sterilisation and timber preservation
- Timber reinstatement works
Wet Rot Wet Rot decay is more localised and generally less destructive than Dry Rot requiring less replacement of infected timber. It is, however, essential to have correct identification by a qualified surveyor to avoid unnecessary expense.
Insect Attack: Wood Boring Insects There are many beetles which are capable of attacking timber. The most common of these is the Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium Punctatum), commonly called Woodworm. The damage caused is often seen as circular holes (1-2mm diameter) affecting timber or furniture. Often confused with damage caused by other beetles, correct identification is essential to determine the correct treatment.
Ward Damp-proofing provides the following treatment process:
- Insecticidal treatment is administered assuming the infestation is assessed as active.
Damp: Rising Damp Rising Dampness occurs when water rises through the pores of masonry due to capillary action. The extent of dampness can vary due to wall thickness, the size of the pores and the local water table. As the wall becomes wet, hygroscopic salts are carried upwards from the ground and evaporate on the wall surface causing damage to the wall finish and any decorations. Ward Damp-proofing provides the following treatment process:
- Professional installation of a damp-proof course.
- Replastering walls using a proprietary system able to prevent salts from migrating to the surface.
Damp: Waterproofing Ward Damp-Proofing is a specialist at protecting basement environments. Our qualified surveyors are able to assess and specify treatments to convert damp basements and cellars into dry habitable spaces. Each project is unique and our surveyors will select the most effective solution according to construction, the localised water table conditions, the planned use of the space, the practicalities of treatment and any detrimental factors such as movement of the structure. Ward Damp-proofing provides the following treatment processes:
- Traditional cementitious waterproofing systems. For example, SIKA tanking and VANDEX
- Cavity drainage systems compliant to BS8102.
