After studying metal sculptures at St. David’s College Llandudno he went on to study blacksmithing at Hereford College. During his studies he worked with blacksmiths in Poland and France and returned to North Wales to begin work as a journeyman, developing his skills working with a local restoration blacksmith.
In 2002 he realised his ambition and set up his own ‘Heat and Beat Studio Forge’ at Dyserth where, using traditional tools and techniques he undertakes a wide range of commissioned work including traditional and contemporary iron work, interior and exterior furniture, restoration, architectural design projects, ornamental water and garden sculptures.
In particular, Richard’s love of nature and the water environment. are expressed in his contemporary decorative work and sculptures, which include plants, animals, and fishes. | |
From our forge in the inspiring North Wales countryside, Heat and Beat - the artist blacksmith - specialises in the creation of high quality artistic metalwork such as:
Sculpture * Furniture - Interior and Exterior * Organic and Geometric Design
 | | The Brickfields Pond Sculpture Trail |
This joint project between Denbighshire Countryside Service and Rhyl Environmental Association has led to the design and creation of a grand gateway feature depicting the industrial heritage and nature of this site. Six individual sculptures and accompanying interpretation highlight which creatures you can expect to see at Brickfields. Rich Jones, of 'Heat and Beat' Forge and Sean Curley, a sculpture artist of 'Greenonion' studio were commissioned to carry out the work. Rich is delighted with the outcome as are the thousands of visitors to the Pond.
One of the sculptures, a kingfisher made of copper, has been placed in memory of Peter Douglas; a former Denbighshire Councilor and Conservationist who was very much involved with the site.
This collection is just a few examples of our extensive work produced at our forge.
