The FACTS on getting you and your workers CSCS carded !
The only way to get a full & valid CSCS card as a skilled tradesman is to either:
(a) apply with your City & Guilds qualification and pass a H&S test or
(b) if you do not have a formal qualification or cannot produce your certificates you must be assessed on site (OSAT) and provide work evidence to gain NVQ level 2 in your occupation plus passing your H&S test.
ON-SITE ASSESSMENT takes from 10 weeks up over to complete. It starts with a short appraisal of your experience known as skill match. We then begin to gather information about you and your past work to build a portfolio of evidence. Most of the work is done by us and upon being assessed on site by an assessor (which can be a few visits depending on skill) you should achieve your qualification. Don’t worry, its not hard!!
FAST CSCS CARDS. The quickest way (3 weeks approx) to get a CSCS card is to pass your H&S test and apply through ‘Skills Direct’ for a temporary card known as ‘an experienced worker card’ (£25). It covers you whilst you do your on site assessment (the card only lasts a year, cannot be renewed and your assessment must be finished to get your full card (costing a further £25). You could just wait until you complete the NVQ.
