It provides an outlet to encourage reuse of material that would otherwise be thrown away. It is a way for the industry to work together to reduce the amount of builders’ waste sent to landfill.
DEFRA statistics show that over 90 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste is produced every year in England and Wales, making up approximately 25% of total waste. At least 13 million tonnes of this refuse is said to be surplus, new material; most of which could be reused, and a further large proportion is second hand product which could also potentially be reused, or recycled. BuilderScrap aims to provide a platform for builders and others in the trade to reduce the amount sent to landfill by utilising each others surplus where possible. The benefits to using this free and easy service include:
- Cost savings – lower disposal charges (fewer skips, landfill tax and labour)
- Cost savings – reduces the need to buy new material
- Help save the environment – less waste sent to landfill, lower carbon emissions
- Potential revenue generation from sale of goods
- Improved company perception and standing
- Be part of a dynamic new brand encouraging the trade to think and act differently
How do I use BuilderScrap? How Can I Use BuilderScrap with My Own Business? When registering on BuilderScrap, you will automatically be given ‘Administrator’ status. This allows you to add users, manage your own and your organisations items and view overall activity for your organisation’s account.
BuilderScrap can be used to dispose of surplus material and good quality second hand material in the most responsible manner possible. It can be used to reduce the amount sent to landfill, saving costs and helping to save the environment.
What’s the Difference between an Administrator & a User? When uploading items to the site, either online or via MMS, those items added by an administrator will be automatically added to the site, whereas those added by a user will need to be authorised first. This allows the administrator(s) control over sales, and lets them edit the item description and cost. It also allows all users within the organisation to view other items available on other sites, and contact their colleague directly if they require that item.
Any enquiries for uploaded items will go directly to the person who originally posted the item, but administrators can view all sent and received enquiries, and therefore monitor account activity.
Once an item has been sold, re-used or given away, it is necessary to ‘de-list’ it. This can be done by either the user or an administrator.
Administrators can add both users and other administrators, by logging in and selecting ‘Add user’ in the right hand window and filling in the relevant details. To apply administrator status, check the relevant tick box. An email will be sent to the user/ administrator to confirm they have been added.
All administrators can also delete users, through the ‘My Account’ section of the website. |
