Case Studies
Contract: Terminal 5 Airport
Location: Heathrow
Main Contractor: BAA & Mace Solutions
Architect: Richard Roberts Partnership
Systems: Bespoke doors, Record automatic controls, screens, cladding, portal steelwork, structural steelwork, bespoke die design in aluminium and rubber.
Project Requirements: Heathrow Airports new Terminal 5 is the UK’s largest free standing building costing a total of £4.3 billion. Working in partnership with clients BAA, Mace Solutions and blast consultants to develop bespoke designs for high traffic automatic sliding and swing doors to be installed to the apron that would also meet the high bomb blast loads and strict specification requirements. This challenging project involved 2D and 3D modelling to develop bespoke one off systems and overcome extensive service co-ordination and the multifaceted design brief.

Systems: Renaissance Structural framing system, CGL Systems Rainscreen, NBK Terracotta Rainscreen, Levolux automatic Soleil, Armourpost garage doors, Schüco windows, doors and curtain walling, Bespoke extrusions, Zephyr louvres and louvre doors.
Project Requirements: Telford College is one of Scotland’s largest further education colleges housed in a new, single, £30m custom-built four-storey building. Innovative ‘off-site’ manufacturing methods were adopted to clad the building minimising site time. Renaissance became a partner in developing panels providing an insulated, weatherproof system that could simply be craned onto the building to provide an instant seal. The added benefit that all external bracketry could be pre-fitted allowed the Rainscreen panels to be hooked on again, speeding up the site installation.
