Bruce Labey Landscape Architecture Limited was formed in early 2009 and aims to provide a fresh new professional design service to private and corporate clients. Based on Bruce Labey's 20 years of experience as a Kew-trained garden designer and landscape architect, the company's mission is to combine the best of modern professional practice with intimate local knowledge and a serious passion for bringing people into contact with plants.
Example Projects
The Waterfront, St Helier
One of the largest planting schemes ever created in Jersey (and having to cope with some of the toughest conditions imaginable), the Waterfront Roads Network, Marina Park and Maritime House were all designed by Bruce Labey. The planting, based on the theme of ‘waves’, aims to reinforce Jersey’s claim to be the ‘Island of Flowers’ along this important route from the ferry terminal – the first impression of the Island for many visitors.
In 2006 it received national recognition when it was awarded the ‘Britain in Bloom Permanent Landscaping Award’ by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Allix's Shipyard, Havre des Pas
A successful pocket park celebrating Jersey’s last active ship building yard designed by Bruce Labey in conjunction with Richard Le Sueur Architects Limited. The space focuses on a well used timber deck shaped like the yard’s last project, one that the shipwrights never quite finished. The planting represents parts of the world that the ships from Allix’s visited – the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, South Africa etc. and, like the ships themselves, it has to cope with some very harsh conditions, especially during winter storms. Allix’s Shipyard won the External Elements section of the Jersey Design Awards in 2004.
