Over the last three decades the company has become a highly capable organization, supplying many blue chip clients including large network rail organizations and leading supermarket chains.
Specific Watermist products have been designed in association with our preferred supply partner LPG Fire, a worldwide company at the forefront of watermist technology.
Crown Fire have developed high pressure Hydrofog® and low pressure Hydromist® systems which cover a wide range of Watermist applications.
In early 2008 the company was acquired by the Carlow Group and as a result, joins a collection of M&E companies benefiting from their group structure and financial backing. This has enabled Crown Fire to embark on significant growth and service development.
We are members of the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), the FIA (Fire Industry Association) and the IWMA (International Watermist Association).
We supply products and services approved by Factory Mutual, Underwriters Laboratories, Loss Prevention Certification Board and VdS – Vertrauen durch Sicherheit.
Crown Fire have quality management systems in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001 and are accredited accordingly.
What is Watermist Overview of Watermist: Introduction & Concepts
Watermist is a highly versatile and extremely efficient fire fighting method. Watermist is different from other common water based systems in respect of its droplet size, it contains a much smaller droplet size than traditional sprinkler output. This is important for a number of reasons:-
When a droplet of water vaporises, it expands by approximately 1,600 times. Heat absorption is a function of surface area and not volume, therefore smaller droplets result in more surface area and faster heat absorption.
The average droplets contained in a water fog yield a total surface area at least 100 times greater than conventional sprinkler droplets for the same water volume. Therefore, much smaller amounts of water required by water fog to absorb energy from the fire. Watermist has a unique ability to deliver water as a fine atomised mist or fog as it is also referred to (depending on the micron size of the individual droplets). This mist or fog is quickly converted to steam which smothers the fire and prevents further oxygen from reaching it. Simultaneously the evaporation creates a significant cooling effect, cools the combustible gases and blocks the transfer of radiated heat.
Water vapour depletes the oxygen contents inside the fire itself (but not in the space in general) and once the fire is extinguished prevents re-ignition. Watermist combines the fire suppression properties of both conventional water-based Deluge or sprinkler systems and gaseous fire suppression systems.
Full scale testing and actual fires have proven that water mist is a most efficient means for fire fighting, while not featuring the drawbacks of conventional systems. History has shown that users who have opted for water mist usually come back as repeat customers.
Crown Fire have designed and developed both low pressure Hydromist® and high-pressure Hydrofog® systems to suit the wide array of fire protection applications that benefit from this technology.
Summary of watermist benefits:
- Safe for people and occupied areas
- Fast suppression times minimising physical damage
- Low water volumes resulting in minimal damage
- Rapid clean up times preventing extended downtime
- Low cost system reinstatement following discharge
- Smoke damage reduced
- Small pipe bores making installation more cost effective
- Easy & cost effective to service & maintain
- Environmentally Sound
