Thorworld Ramps Speed Up Loading At Plant

A Thorworld Industries mobile yard ramp is playing a key role at a busy Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) operated by Veolia Environmental Services at its 175 hectare integrated waste management site in Rainham, Essex.

Incoming mixed recyclable material, which includes paper and card, plastic bottles, and cans, is separated before being made up into bales weighing up to one tonne.

As the MRF facility has no loading bay, fork lift trucks drive up the Thorworld ramp to place bales of the separated material into container trucks for onward transit to reprocessing plants in the UK and overseas. The ramp is chained to the back of the container truck to ensure operator safety whilst loading takes place.

The 10,000 kg (10 tonne) capacity ramp has an overall length of 12.2m and a useable width of 2.25m. With a robust steel superstructure, using solid beam construction, it is hydraulically operated down to 890mm, and has a serrated open grid deck for positive traction in all weather conditions.

Thorworld Managing Director, John Meale, said: "There has been a continuing increase in demand for our mobile yard ramps from recyclers who deal with all kinds of waste. That's because our market-leading ramps are extremely solidly built to withstand the rigours of a tough outdoor working environment and they offer faster, easier loading, with increased productivity."
