Talks Over Fuel Tank Driver Strike Resume

Talks, which will aim to try and stop a possible strike by fuel tank drivers, have resumed.

Officials from the Unite union and seven distribution companies met under the chairmanship of the conciliation service yesterday.

During the talks they were trying to reach a deal over drivers' terms and conditions and other issues such as health and safety.

The long-running dispute has led to panic-buying at pumps after government advice to drivers to top up their fuel tanks. The government faced widespread criticism over the advice.

If the union decides to strike on the ballot it carried out on 26 March, it has until 16 April to name the date. Ministers are telling the public there is no danger of a strike over the Easter holidays.

It is understood the first day of talks extended into the early hours of Thursday at a secret location in London without resolution but they have now restarted.
